Attracting
flies - there is so much intertextuality within this music video, starting with
Little red riding hood and the wolf within the first few frames, leading onto Rapunsel
as the video continues, then Goldie locks and the three little bears, the sword
in the stone, the princess and the pea, Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Cruela
devil from 101 Dalmatians and sleeping beauty. The video starts with the lyrics
hat repeat throughout “little grey fairy-tales and little white lies”
referencing all the fairy-tale intertextuality to come within her video. There
are a lot of high angle shots looking down on Aluna making her seem more
vulnerable like the princesses from the fairy-tales she is rein acting.
Not above
love - at the start of the video she arrives in a car playing one of her
previous songs “mean what I mean” from the radio including her own
intertextuality. As well as this the frame then changes to a swimming pool also
previously used in her video “you know you like it” where she dances in an
empty swimming pool with her friends. Unlike most of her other songs, this is
slower and has a sadder message and tone. She has her hair styled in a similar
way to princess Laya from Star Wars as well as wearing a white jacket and
trousers suit. I also like the use of flashbacks she does using quick frames of
photos creating Aluna’s memories of a previous relationship she is trying to
get over as these pictures flash on and off. Towards the end there is a club
scene which has a dance genre vibe, referencing the same genre I am going to
create with my video.
Best be
believing - this video starts as Aluna is taken to a dance rehabilitation
centre. The group support meeting has intertextuality to films such as wreck it
Ralph, collateral beauty and shutter island. Furthermore, as images are held up
by a psychiatrist, which one of the actor’s dances too in response to each,
there is intertextuality to the Simpsons where Bart is taken to a psychiatrist
and he must say what the picture looks like. She is hooked up to a machine
which connotes a lie detector seen in movies such as mission impossible. This
video also has a dance genre vibe similar to the sort of video I am going to be
creating.
Some useful research here. Images too would have been helpful. Now think about creating synergy between these and your storyboard.
