Finders Keepers music video

Our task was to create a new video for a small section of an existing music video, using original film content to demonstrate our knowledge so far of the conventions and elements that we have reviewed in both alternative and mainstream music videos.

We chose do create a mainstream music video with an alternative feel for the first 90 seconds of the song "Finders Keepers" by Mabel and Kojo funds.

Below is the response we filmed, edited and delivered.

The camera shots present the girls from a front perspective as they walk towards the camera and occasionally catch direct gaze with the audience forcing the viewer to keep watching by engaging them. The camera continues to follow the girls movements creating a following effect keeping the viewer with them at all times, which keeps them focused on the girls continuous actions.

The slow motion is used to sync the girls walking with the beat of the music as well as to emphasise the steady pace of the video which gives the action of them walking more power and authority, keeping there viewer interested. Miss-en-scene is shown in the setting of the town and walking down the road, as this is a rather common and basic everyday action, which adds to the authentic relatable atmosphere being created in the music video.

This music video is mainly mainstream as it shows a typical nightlife setting in a suburban town with teenagers out having fun with a group of friends, which is relatable for the target audience of young teenagers to young adults as it is a realistic representation of events they may partake in and actions they may do. The music video also has a positive message as by the end of the video both girls have found one another and have a night full of fun and laughter with all their friends which is a positive linear message that would be expected from a mainstream music video. the glimpse shots of partying shows the natural behaviour of teenagers, in media context, children nowadays have more freedom to do things such as leave the house and meet friends, in particular girls as before this used to be frowned upon.

There are alternative features within the video such as not using the artist, or for example me and my partner in this video and by using ordinary teenagers to give the video a more realistic and relatable feel that comes with a alternative video as there are no celebrities or references to lavish and luxurious lifestyles like those of celebrities displayed in music videos.

The target audience is young teenagers to young adults, this is mirrored by the age of people used in the video. We widened this target audience by using friendship as the theme of the video rater than romance like seen most commonly in mainstream videos, this allows a larger target audience range to be able to relate to the video as well as find it relatable.

The use of light is displayed throughout the video, at the beginning when the girls are in the dark street setting the street lights illuminate their faces, showing an angelic look signifying child innocence, the use of the light glowing in their eyes as their faces come close to the camera however, gives off an eery sense, demonstrating the transition from childhood to teenage years.

Below I have attached the new and improved music video, that we have edited based on peer feedback and personal ideas and improvements. We have not filmed any new clips, but have however improved the time syncing of the various video clips with the music as well as improving the transitional fades between each clip and fading the slow motion in and out by certain fractions for various videos.
